If you remember the good old days when everyone had a free website with Geocities, you may be surprised to hear that Yahoo has decided to close Geocities for good. And, most importantly, some advertisers are already buying the term and capitalizing on the news. Check this out:

Coming back to Yahoo, they are already not taking new customers but the existing Geocities accounts have remained intact. Yet your Geocities website will only remain there until later this year and you will have to save the data and relocate the website elsewhere as soon as this summer. Of course, Yahoo’s recommendation is to go with their paid web hosting service and it does not look like there will be another free hosting service available. So, really, you will wither have to pay or let your website die. As if it would make you feel better, Yahoo recommends using your Yahoo profile. Though, frankly, I would rather go with Google Profiles. because it seems like with Yahoo you’d be stuck between a rock and a hard place.
