All new things Google – December 2009

by Maria on January 1, 2010

Here’s a quick cheat sheet with the latest on all things Google this December:

1) YouTube is the place for music… and Hari Sreenivasan.

YouTube debuted two new channels – VEVO, a music video destination, and the PBS NewsHour. VEVO hopes to redefine the way people watch and engage with music online, as well as change the way the digital and music industries do business with each other. The PBS NewsHour is part of a larger initiative to bring users NewsHour content wherever, whenever and however they want to access it.

2) YouTube “Feather” beta.

Consider opting in to the new “Feather” beta, which is intended to serve YouTube video watch pages with the lowest latency possible.

3) Chrome – decked out for the holidays

If you’re a Mac or Linux user who has been eagerly awaiting Chrome for your operating system, your wait is over. Mac users may install the beta here, while Linux users may install it here.

4) Streaming news now on Google Finance

Google recently began streaming real-time financial and market news on Google Finance. Now you’ll see stories appear on the Google Finance homepage, or the dedicated news page, as they develop minute by minute, from 8am-5:30pm EST (90 minutes before and after US trading hours).
