As a big fan of most Google products, Google Sites is something that I’ve seen emerge over the past year – from something that was hardly usable into a pretty cool way to create quick and simple websites. However, the question that has been on my mind was tracking – not that it is critical for the purpose of websites you’d create – but definitely a nice to have.
If you are not familiar with Google Sites, check it out at http://www.google.com/sites/help/intl/en/overview.html.
Really, Google Sites offers a lot for free – from simple family websites to powerful company intranets.
Now, as I just found out, Google Sites can be tracked with Google Analytics. Duh! But how?
Here’s how to track Google Sites with Google Analytics:
1. Create a new Google Analytics account and profile for your Google Sites website.
2. Get the new JavaScript code snippet and copy the tracking ID (always formatted like UA-XXXXXXX-XX).
3. Paste this tracking ID into your Google Sites settings page under Other Stuff > Statistics.
Once you set up Analytics for your Google Site website, you’ll have to remember to apply the code to all the existing and future pages for your website. For full instructions on configuring your site with Analytics, please follow these instructions from Google Help.

Hi Maria,
Great blog you have, found it on linkedin under your profile !
I’m just wondering, when do you think Event tracking will be merged with normal “Google goals tracking” ?
Best regards, Kamran
Kamran, as far as I know, Google keeps telling us it’s in the works. However, I would be surprised if it’s here in the next 6 months.
