If you are among the few website owners who still do not have their websites verified with Google, Yahoo, and Bing webmaster tools: what are you waiting for? The signup and verification process is simple (how to register with Google, Yahoo, and Bing webmaster tools?) and free – and the benefits are countless.

By registering with Google, Yahoo, and Bing webmaster tools you’ll get the following:

  • Access to top search queries on Google, Yahoo, and Bing
  • Latest data regarding incoming links and internal links
  • Access to crawl errors, SE feedback on sitemaps and robots.txt
  • Keyword relevancy grading
  • Sitelinks management
  • Subscriber stats
  • HTML suggestions
  • Insights into crawling and indexing activity on the site
  • Access to Google, Yahoo, and Bing tools for webmasters– such as Fetch as Google Bot, malware detection, site load time checkers, etc.

So, really, go sign up already (how to register with Google, Yahoo, and Bing webmaster tools?) and I am sure you will be thankful that you did.

Is there really any ‘benefit’ of signing up to these webmaster tools? I ask because I’ve read conflicting reports and recently read that a site, once you’ve registered, will be put in a ’sandbox’ for anything from 6 months to a year. Thus, especially when Google is concerned, it can take a long time for our pagerank to increase regardless of any other SEO work that you put into the site. Indeed, I’ve worked on a few other sites over the years and also know of some others that are not registered with these tools and they have a much more dominant presence.

It would be interesting to get your take on this. Any comments would be very much appreciated and thanks in advance for reading.

There are many benefits, in fact. Webmaster tools is not exactly an SEO tool – it is for the webmaster. You’ll know of any technical issues with your website(s), such as broken links, duplicate meta, malware, crawling errors, sitelinks, HTML problems… You’ll have insights into page load time and you’ll see which keywords on Google/Yahoo/Bing are bringing in the most traffic. IMHO: even if you don’t SEO, you should still care about the quality of your website. Plus, verification is simple and it costs nothing. So why not?
As a rule of thumb, the bigger and the more famous a website is, the less they tend to care about the engines because then SEs want them in their index anyways. Not so much with other, smaller websites. We need to work to be in the index and ranked well.
Though the big guys who are ignoring webmaster tools are not taking advantage of something rather cool. I am yet to see a website that could not be improved.
